Sales Tax Formula:

Sales tax = Selling price – Printed price

Selling Price  = P(1 + r/100)

Here,

P = Printed price ( Price without sales tax )

R = Rate of tax (%)

Price Including Sales Tax:

Example : A Bike is for sale at $ 17600 inclusive of sales tax at the rate of 10%.

Selling Price  = P(1 + r/100)

17600 = P(1 + 10/100)

17600 = P(11/100)

Therefore, P = 17,600 ×  (10/11)

P = 16000

Now,

Sales tax = Selling price – Printed price

Sales tax = 17600 – 16000

Sales tax = $1600

The sales tax on the bike is $1600.

Price Excluding Sales Tax:

Example : Printed price of a Bike is $ 17600 Exclusive of sales tax at the rate of 10%.

Selling Price  = P(1 + r/100)

Selling Price =  17600 (1 + 10/100)

Selling Price =  17600 (1.1)

Selling Price =  $ 19360

Sales tax = Selling price – Printed price

Sales tax = $ 19360 – $ 17600

Sales tax = $ 1760

The sales tax on the bike is $1700.
